Episode 6: Crouching Tiger

When amazing people hide in plain sight. 卧虎藏龙 (wò hǔ cáng lóng)

Literally: “Crouching tiger, hidden dragon”
Real meaning: Talented or powerful people are quietly hidden around us — even if they look ordinary

This idiom is about hidden strength. It reminds us that the quietest person in the room might be the one with the greatest power — a hero in disguise!

🗣️ Words to Know:

  • 卧 (wò) = to crouch / lie low

  • 虎 (hǔ) = tiger

  • 藏 (cáng) = to hide

  • 龙 (lóng) = dragon

  • 土匪 (tǔ fěi) = bandits

  • 金龙 (jīn lóng) = golden dragon

We’re more than halfway through the tiger idioms I planned for… Thanks for growing your Chinese with me!
