Today’s idiom is 此地无银三百两.
此地 (cǐ dì) – this place
无银 (wú yín) – no silver
三百两 (sān bǎi liǎng) – 300 taels (ancient money)
I love this idiom because people have been laughing about it for hundreds of years, like the longest running inside joke.
The original Ming Dynasty folk tale: a man buried silver and tried to hide it by writing a sign that said: “No 300 taels here” Then someone stole it AND left a note: “Neighbor Wang didn’t steal it”
What? Crumbs all over my face? DEFINITELY wasn’t me who ate all the Pocky 😆
