Hey friends,
Marking the boat to find your sword later? Not a great plan, sorry! That’s what today’s idiom is all about: 刻舟求剑 (kè zhōu qiú jiàn).
刻 (kè) – to carve
舟 (zhōu) – boat
求 (qiú) – to search
剑 (jiàn) – sword
The original story comes from 《吕氏春秋》 (Lǚ Shì Chūn Qiū) — proof that people have been calling each other out for outdated thinking for at least 2,300 years.
Like someone I shall not name once said, “I love this GPS device — the time is always so accurate.” Right… by the time we get there. 😂
This is our last idiom in the “Not Fooling Anyone” series — I’ll be posting a fun recap episode on Friday! XOXO
