Episode 15: Waiting For Rabbit

Hope is not a strategy… especially for dinner

Hi friends,

This idiom was one of the first that I remember learning: 守株待兔 (shǒu zhū dài tù). Literally: Guarding a tree stump, waiting for a rabbit. Real meaning: sitting around hoping for luck instead of doing the work.

  • (shǒu): to guard or stand watch

  • (zhū): a tree stump

  • (dài): to wait

  • (tù): rabbit

If you want to share BecomingLanguage, I made a short link: bit.ly/becominglang. Hope it’s handy! Now I’ll just sit and chill until I get a million subscribers… 😝
